Hironori SAKAMOTO Yoshiaki HASHIMOTO Dr. Hironori Sakamoto currently serves as a senior researcher at the National Institute for Environmental Studies, (NIES). He conducts research on the management and control of invasive alien insects, particularly focusing on include insects. His current efforts social developing methods for the early detection and rapid control of the red imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta, which has been continuously invading Japan since 2017, and providing guidance on the control of the Argentine ant Linepithema humile across various regions of Japan. In 2024, he wrote a comprehensive review on the damage and control of invasive alien ants in Asia, published in Medical Entomology in Asia (Springer). Yoshiaki Hashimoto is a special professor at the Institute of Natural and Environmental Sciences, University of Hyogo. He received his Ph.D. from Kobe University in 1990. His current research interests focus on ecological studies and methods to control invasive alien ant species. In 2003, he was awarded the Japanese Society of Applied Zoology and Entomology’s award for his research on fire ant management. He has also served as a committee member for fire ant countermeasures for local governments, including Kobe City and Okayama Prefecture, and he is currently a member of the Fire Ant Expert Committee of the Ministry of the Environment.
